Yves I agree with that athletes do hold some responsibilty to be role models but as a society we at times treat these athletes God Like and they are not. They are individuals that we really don't ,who have problems and insecurities in their own life. Just because someone is a phenomenal athlete that is playing on ABC and ESPN does not make them a role model to our youth it just mean they are a great athlete. The responsibilty of of being a role model to our youth is everyone's in society who can contribute to changing someone's life. Just cause your an athlete doesn't necessary mean that all of a suddent you are a role model to our youth, some of these individuals are not capable of that responsibility or even want it. I would rather have a real role model instead of someone who is doing it because his/her PR person says it will make you look good to the public. The power of being an American is the freedoms we are giving allow us to make a choice of who we want to be and it is time for us as a society to stop holding these athletes to something that may not be them. Yeah we all wish that these individuals were all role models but the reality is they are not and maybe we should stop telling them what they should do and allow them to make that choice when they are ready to make that commitment to change a childs life.

M. Jordan might just be the Ultimate Basketball Icon, but with that status comes a responsibility as a role model.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AjxiQhijE1xkLkNtcj8ZthY5nYcB?slug=aw-jordanhall091209&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

The role model aspect in professional sports is nearly gone today or often it is overshadowed by ego, sense of entitlement, big $$$$$ and bad behavior. Lets get sports back on track.
